Writer Performance Optimization with Shingled Rounded Corner and Exchange Coupled Composite Media

The shingled magnetic recording (SMR) with exchange coupled composite (ECC) media is a feasible method to achieve the areal density of multi-Tera-bit/in2. However, rounded corner inevitable due deviations from fabrication process writer. modeled and characterized by two parameters: angle (θ) length (L). This paper investigates influence effect on field distribution, writing capability, bit error rate (BER), erase band width (EBW) SMR. analysis suggests that an optimized structure can increase write gradient reduce stray avoid adjacent track encroachment. results show if writer θ = 40° L 3 nm elaborately constructed, attain peak value 552 Oe/nm, performance system be improved.
